Army OPAT Calculator 2026 – Physical Demand Category

Occupational Physical Assessment Test

Army OPAT Calculator 2026

Enter all four OPAT event results and identify the highest Physical Demand Category you meet.

The result is not an average. Black, Gray, or Gold is awarded only when every event reaches that category’s minimum; otherwise the result is White.

Current-source note
Army H2F continues to define OPAT as a four-event occupational assessment. This tool uses category thresholds that remain verifiable in current public Army sources and does not invent a separate “2026 points” scale. Review the Army H2F OPAT overview.

Overview

What Is the Army OPAT?

OPAT stands for Occupational Physical Assessment Test. It is a four-event battery used to assess whether a recruit has the physical capability to engage in demanding Army training associated with occupational requirements.

The events measure lower-body power, upper-body explosive power, strength, and aerobic capacity. OPAT is occupationally focused and is separate from the Army Fitness Test.

The Army H2F Physical Domain currently lists Standing Long Jump, Seated Power Throw, Strength Deadlift, and Interval Aerobic Run as the four OPAT events.

Four assessments

Army OPAT Events

Each event addresses a different physical capability. Follow current Army instructions for official setup, attempts, measurement, and test administration.

01

Standing Long Jump

Assesses lower-body explosive power from a two-foot takeoff behind the designated line.

02

Seated Power Throw

Assesses upper-body explosive power using a 2 kg medicine ball and a measured forward throw.

03

Strength Deadlift

Assesses lower-body strength through the highest successfully completed hex-bar lift.

04

Interval Aerobic Run

Assesses aerobic capacity through progressive 20-meter shuttles synchronized with audio cues.

Category meaning

What Do Gold, Gray and Black Mean on the OPAT?

The categories correspond to occupational physical-demand levels. The required category depends on the physical demands associated with the intended MOS or training pathway; this calculator does not assign an MOS.

Moderate

Gold

The minimum qualifying category shown by the calculator and the current Gold thresholds.

Significant

Gray

A higher category requiring every result to reach the Gray threshold.

Heavy

Black

The highest category displayed here, associated with the heaviest occupational demands.

White: below the minimum Gold standard in one or more events. The category cannot be raised by stronger performance in the other events.

Do not confuse the tests

Is the OPAT the Same as the Army Fitness Test?

No. OPAT evaluates occupational physical capability for demanding training and MOS requirements. The AFT is the Army’s separate general fitness test of record.

Questions

Army OPAT Calculator FAQ

What is the Army OPAT?

It is the Occupational Physical Assessment Test, a four-event battery used to assess a recruit’s capability for physically demanding Army training associated with occupational requirements.

What are the four OPAT events?

Standing Long Jump, Seated Power Throw, Strength Deadlift, and Interval Aerobic Run. The run is performed last.

What is the minimum Gold OPAT standard?

The current Gold thresholds used here are 120 cm in the Standing Long Jump, 350 cm in the Seated Power Throw, 120 lb in the Strength Deadlift, and 36 successful shuttles.

What does Gray mean on the OPAT?

Gray is the significant physical-demand category. A Gray result requires all four events to reach the Gray minimums; a single Gold-level event keeps the overall category at Gold.

What is the Black OPAT standard?

The Black thresholds shown by this calculator are 160 cm, 450 cm, 160 lb, and 43 shuttles. Every event must reach its Black threshold.

How is an OPAT category determined?

The calculator checks the highest level met by all four events. It does not average results, add points, or let one strong event offset another event below the target.

Is the OPAT the same as the AFT?

No. OPAT is occupationally focused and uses physical-demand categories. The AFT is the Army’s separate points-based fitness test of record.

What happens if I do not meet the Gold OPAT standard?

The calculator reports White, meaning at least one event is below the Gold minimum. Official retest, contract, training, or MOS decisions must follow current Army procedures and authorized personnel guidance.
