PRT context

What the Navy PRT Run Measures

The 1.5-mile run measures cardiorespiratory endurance. It is one Navy PRT modality alongside push-ups and the forearm plank, unless an authorized alternate cardio event is used.

This page evaluates the run modality only. A passing run result does not by itself mean the overall Navy PRT is passed.

Official scoring logic

How Navy PRT Run Scoring Works

Run time is the performance you complete; run score is the Navy point level assigned to that time for your sex and age group.

Guide-5A uses discrete official point levels of 100, 95, 90, 85, 80, 75, 70, 65, 60, 55, 50, and 45. Faster times meet higher thresholds. This calculator does not interpolate between the published levels.

2026 Navy PRT Run Standards

The table below follows your selected sex and age group and shows the exact 1.5-mile run thresholds used by the calculator.

Score target

What Is a Good Navy PRT Run Time?

There is no single universal “good” 1.5-mile time for every Sailor. The applicable score depends on age, sex, and desired performance category. Use the official table rather than generic benchmarks.

PRT preparation

How to Improve Your Navy PRT Run Time

Train specifically for the 1.5-mile distance rather than turning preparation into a generic long-distance running program.

Easy aerobic runs

Build enough aerobic capacity to support repeatable faster work without turning every run into a test.

Intervals

Use controlled faster repeats to improve speed and tolerance for the pace required over 1.5 miles.

Tempo work

Practice sustained comfortably hard running to improve your ability to hold pace.

Race-specific practice

Periodically rehearse the actual 1.5-mile distance and realistic PRT conditions, with adequate recovery.

Time format

Navy PRT Run Time Conversion

The calculator accepts separate minutes and seconds, then converts the result to total seconds internally for exact comparison with the official threshold table.

Additional questions

Navy PRT Run Calculator FAQ

What distance is the Navy PRT run?

The standard run modality is 1.5 miles. Guide-5A also contains authorized alternate cardio options that are scored separately.

Does age affect my Navy PRT run score?

Yes. Guide-5A publishes age groups from 17–19 through 65+, with different 1.5-mile thresholds.

Are male and female Navy PRT run standards different?

Yes. The current standard tables publish separate male and female run thresholds.

What run time do I need for a higher Navy PRT score?

The exact target depends on your selected profile. The calculator shows the next official threshold after each result.

Does the run score affect my overall Navy PRT result?

Yes. The run is one scored modality. The overall PRT also depends on push-ups and forearm plank unless an alternate cardio event applies.

Can I use this calculator for an official Navy PRT?

No. It is an independent preparation tool. Official results are administered and recorded under current Navy procedures.

What happens if I use an authorized alternate cardio event?

Use the scoring standards for that specific cardio modality rather than this 1.5-mile run table. The full Navy PRT Calculator supports row and swim alternatives.

Where can I find official Navy PRT standards?

Use the MyNavyHR Physical Readiness page and the PRP Guides index, where Guide-5A is listed.
