Army 2-Mile Run Standards

The 2-Mile Run (2MR) is the fifth event of the Army Fitness Test (AFT). Scoring is based on official AFT scoring tables effective June 1, 2025, which remain in effect for 2026.

General Standard – age- and gender-normed. Each event requires a minimum of 60 points.

Combat Standard – sex-neutral and age-normed. Each event requires a minimum of 60 points, with a higher total AFT passing requirement of 350 points.

For the 2MR, your score is determined by looking up your exact time in the official scoring table for your age group, gender, and standard.

Performance

What Is a Good Army 2-Mile Run Time?

There is no single "good" time for all Soldiers. A good 2MR time depends on your age, gender, and the standard you are being tested against.

  • 60 points – the minimum passing standard for the event.
  • 80 points – a solid performance above the minimum.
  • 90+ points – a high-performance score.
  • 100 points – maximum performance for your profile.

Scoring

How Many Points Is My 2-Mile Run?

Your 2MR points are determined by your age group, gender, standard, and your exact 2-mile run time.

The AFT 2MR scoring is table-based — every point from 0 to 100 corresponds to a specific time. The calculator above uses the official scoring tables to find your exact score.

Select your profile, enter your exact time, and click Calculate; the calculator shows your official table-based score.

Passing

How Fast Do I Need to Run 2 Miles to Pass?

To pass the 2MR event, you need to achieve at least 60 points. The time required for 60 points varies by age group, gender, and standard.

Use the calculator above to see your 60-point passing time for your specific profile. The result card shows exactly how much faster (or slower) you are compared to the passing standard.

Pace

How to Calculate Your 2-Mile Run Pace

Your mile pace is simply your total 2-mile time divided by 2.

Formula: Mile Pace = Total Time ÷ 2

For example, an 18:00 2-mile run gives a 9:00 per mile pace. The calculator above also shows your 400m and 800m splits to help you plan interval workouts.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Army use the same 2-mile run standard for men and women?
Under the General Standard, the 2MR is age- and gender-normed, so standards differ between men and women. Under the Combat Standard, scoring is sex-neutral and uses the same scale for all Soldiers.
Does the Army 2-mile run score change with age?
Yes. The General Standard uses age-normed scoring, so older Soldiers have slightly more generous time standards. The Combat Standard also uses age-normed scoring but is sex-neutral.
What happens if I score below 60 points on the 2MR?
Scoring below 60 points on the 2MR means you do not meet the minimum event standard. You would need to retest or improve your performance to pass the event.
Can I get 100 points on the 2-mile run?
Yes. 100 points represents the maximum performance for your profile. The time required for 100 points varies by age, gender, and standard.
Is the 2-mile run part of the AFT in 2026?
Yes. The 2MR remains the fifth event of the five-event Army Fitness Test (AFT) in 2026.
Is this calculator an official Army scorecard?
No. This is an independent informational tool. Official results are determined by authorized personnel using current Army policy and official scoring tables.
Can my total AFT score pass if my 2-mile run is below 60 points?
No. You must achieve at least 60 points on every event, including the 2MR, to pass the AFT.
Does the Combat Standard use a different 2-mile run scale?
The Combat Standard uses the same scoring table as the Male General Standard for a given age group, but with a higher total AFT passing requirement (350 points). The 2MR event still requires 60 points minimum.
