Calculator purpose
Air Force Plank Calculator 2026
This calculator converts a timed forearm plank result into the corresponding 2026 Air Force Core Endurance score. Choose a profile and drag the slider to apply the discrete time thresholds published in the official PFRA Scoring Charts.
Select the age group and sex used by the chart, then drag from 0:00 toward the maximum target. The result shows points out of 15, whether the chart minimum was reached, and the next available point target.
Scoring mechanism
How the Air Force Forearm Plank Is Scored
The forearm plank belongs to the Core Endurance component, which contributes up to 15 points to the full PFA. Performance is measured by the time the required position is held.
Age group and sex determine the applicable scoring column. Each published time threshold corresponds to a fixed score, so a result remains at that point value until the next threshold is reached.
Highest available Core Endurance score for the forearm plank.
Lowest scored threshold shown with an asterisk in the official chart.
Plank scores increase in half-point steps.
Successive plank thresholds are generally separated by five seconds.
Official chart overview
2026 Air Force Plank Standards
There is no single plank time that applies to every Airman. The minimum and maximum targets vary across nine age groups and between male and female scoring columns.
Use the calculator for the exact score. The compact overview below shows the 2.5-point minimum and 15-point maximum for each profile; the complete selected-profile scale is available inside the calculator.
| Age group | Male minimum | Female minimum | Male maximum | Female maximum |
|---|
Minimum means the 2.5-point threshold; maximum means the 15-point threshold. Confirm current standards in the 2026 PFRA Scoring Charts.
Assessment technique
How to Perform the Air Force Forearm Plank
Official test execution matters more than ordinary gym variations. Follow the current assessment administrator's instructions and the applicable Department of the Air Force guidance.
The general position uses the forearms for support while the body remains aligned. Do not trade required form for extra time, because only performance completed under the authorized procedure determines the official result.
Begin face down with elbows bent and forearms placed on the floor or approved mat as directed.
Keep the head, shoulders, back, hips, and legs aligned rather than allowing the hips to sag or rise.
Hold the position continuously and respond to the assessment administrator's commands.
Current DAF guidance and local authorized personnel control test setup, timing, corrections, and termination.
Time requirement
How Long Do You Need to Hold the Air Force Plank?
The required time depends on the scoring profile. For example, the official 2.5-point threshold ranges from 1:35 for males under 25 to 0:55 for males ages 60 and over; female thresholds range from 1:30 under 25 to 0:50 at age 60 and over.
A longer hold earns progressively more points until the 15-point target for that profile is reached. Use the calculator instead of relying on a single universal target.
Practical preparation
How to Improve Your Air Force Plank Score
Train the exact position you expect to use, progress gradually, and stop a practice hold when alignment can no longer be maintained. Short repeated holds and longer controlled holds can both support endurance development.
Practice under test-like timing and surface conditions, but avoid treating a training estimate as an official score or medical recommendation.
Make repeatable alignment the first goal before extending time.
Increase total hold time in manageable steps rather than forcing large jumps.
Accumulate quality time through several shorter sets with controlled rest.
Use occasional longer efforts to become comfortable near the next score target.
End the set when posture breaks instead of rehearsing an invalid position.
Use a timer and authorized technique cues to make practice more specific.
Core options
Air Force Plank vs. Sit-Ups and Cross-Leg Reverse Crunches
The updated PFA lists all three as Core Endurance options. They share the same 15-point component maximum but measure performance differently.
The plank is time-based, while the sit-up and cross-leg reverse crunch are repetition-based. Follow current official and unit instructions when determining which event applies to an assessment.
Forearm Plank
Measures how long the required static position is maintained.
Sit-Ups
Scores the number of accepted repetitions completed in the event period.
Cross-Leg Reverse Crunches
Scores accepted repetitions using the approved alternative core movement.
