Non-combat-arms Marines continue to use sex- and age-normed PFT standards. Combat-arms PMOS Marines use the male, age-normed PFT scoring standard beginning Jan. 1, 2026. Read the official 2026 announcement.

PFT structure

2026 Marine Pull-Up Standards

The first PFT event is a Pull-Up / Push-Up Hybrid Test. Marines select either pull-ups or push-ups for that event; the repetitions and scores are not combined. The official table awards up to 100 points through pull-ups, while the push-up option has a lower maximum score.

Pull-up minimums and 100-point repetition targets vary by age and scoring column. That is why this page does not publish one universal “minimum pull-ups” number for every Marine.

For combat-arms PMOS Marines in 2026, select the Combat Arms scoring profile above. The calculator then uses the male age-normed pull-up column as required by the current PFT policy.

Official table lookup

How Marine Corps Pull-Ups Are Scored

The calculator first maps age to one of eight official groups: 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50, or 51+. It then selects the applicable male or female pull-up column—or the male column for the 2026 combat-arms profile—and performs an exact repetition-to-points lookup.

Scores are capped at 100. A result below the published minimum repetition count does not meet the pull-up event's minimum scoring threshold.

Practical interpretation

How Many Pull-Ups Do You Need for a High PFT Score?

There is no single high-score repetition target that applies to every profile. Use the dynamic table above to see the repetitions associated with 70, 80, 90, and 100 points in your applicable scoring column. The result card also shows the next repetition level that increases your score.

Training focus

How to Improve Your Marine PFT Pull-Ups

Build repeatable, technically consistent repetitions rather than testing your maximum every session. Increase total quality volume gradually and protect recovery.

Dead hangs

Build grip tolerance and comfort supporting full bodyweight from the bar.

Scapular pull-ups

Practice shoulder-blade control before adding more full repetitions.

Assisted pull-ups

Accumulate clean volume while gradually reducing assistance.

Negative reps

Use controlled lowering when building strength toward additional full reps.

Volume progression

Add quality repetitions over time instead of repeatedly training to failure.

Grip strength

Train grip and upper-back endurance to support later repetitions.

Proper form

Practice the same authorized pull-up standard you will use during the PFT.

Recovery

Allow enough recovery between harder sessions to keep repetition quality high.

Additional questions

Marine Pull-Up Calculator FAQ

How many pull-ups do you need to pass the Marine PFT event?

There is no single number for every profile. The minimum pull-up count depends on the applicable age and scoring column; use the calculator to see your current minimum.

Are pull-ups or push-ups better for PFT points?

They are two options within the same hybrid event. Pull-ups can earn the full 100 event points, while the published push-up table has a lower maximum.

Can pull-up and push-up repetitions be combined?

No. A Marine selects one option for the hybrid event; pull-up and push-up scores are not added together.

Do pull-up scores change with age?

Yes. The published pull-up table uses eight age groups, and the repetition-to-points relationship can change when you enter a new age band.

Do male and female Marines always use different pull-up scoring?

For standard non-combat-arms scoring, the tables are sex- and age-normed. In 2026, combat-arms PMOS Marines use the male age-normed PFT standard.

Does doing more than the 100-point pull-up target add extra PFT points?

No. The pull-up event score is capped at 100 points.

Is this an official Marine Corps calculator?

No. It is an independent informational tool built from the published Marine Corps pull-up scoring table and current 2026 policy guidance.
